NEWS RELEASE:   IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

Annual Vernon County Emergency Preparedness Exercise
August 29, 2017

The Vernon County Office of Emergency Management, Nevada Regional Medical Center and the Northeast Vernon County school system will be hosting the annual emergency preparedness exercise.  This exercise is intended to test our emergency operations plans, the school's Emergency plan and to give the different entities the opportunity to work together to enhance their skills and knowledge.

The functional exercise, occurring on August 29th, will simulate a crisis while school is in session in the Northeast Vernon County school system.  Our exercise, "WHAT WAS THAT?", will be a training exercise on how we would handle such an incident if it were to occur.  There will be multiple injuries that would coincide with such an incident.

The event will take place around 1:00pm and should be over by no later than 4:00pm.  There will be several emergency response vehicles participating.  We ask the public to act as though this was a real event.
The exercise is designed to validate the following functions: communications; medical surge, operation coordination and on scene security and protection.

The exercise will take place in the vicinity of the Northeast Vernon County High School in Walker MO.  This will affect all surrounding streets.  As a precaution, we ask the public to please avoid this area during the exercise.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU MAY SEE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS SEARCHING THE AREA.  PLEASE DO NOT BE ALARMED!!
